Saint Valentine's Day is usually shortened to Valentine's Day and most people tend to forget that it was a celebration of a number of Christian martyrs called Valentine. This is probably because St Valentine's Day was deleted from the Roman Calendar of Saints in 1969 and now it is known as a day where lovers express their feelings for each other by sending cards and gifts. This day was first associated with lovers by the famous writer Geoffrey Chaucer in a publication called Parlement of Foules, which was written in the Middle Ages. Back then gifts of love were given which included confectionery and handwritten greetings cards, however, since the 19th century these handwritten cards have been replaced by mass produced greeting cards.
